So April and I went up the Duomo and I was kinda not impressed. I mean everything looks the same. No like litterly all the building are made of the same brick and all have the same tiles roofs. The monuments are kinda cool though like the church's and the bell tower. There's also aa castle tower in the distance that is not on the map so yeah. Never mind Mom found she thinks that its called Piazza Michelangelo. That's all for now tell me what you think it's called.

In some Italian towns the buildings are required to use the same type of roof tiles that they've always used because those tiles are historic, or because they like them all to look the same (like how some HOAs make all the houses have the same paint color). I learned that in one of the Traveling Nerds books!

I think Rosie is exactly correct. They most likely have some architectural controls in place for the height of surrounding buildings and use of materials and paint colors.

The Duomo was a historical engineering achievement. No dome has ever been built that large using bricks. The engineering tricks that Brunelleschi used to make it work are still not entirely understood as they are hidden in the walls and cannot be seen!

I think it’s an achievement to make a bunch of Italians do the same thing - impossible nowadays! Btw, the Duomo was architecturally ahead of its time (besides being so impressive and full of history).
